A musicologist's guide to Sonic Visualiser - introduction
Sonic Visualiser is a highly flexible playback and visualisation environment for recordings, developed by the Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary, University of London (with some input from CHARM). The links on this page provide guidance on how to access and install the program, which is available in versions for Windows, OS/X, and Linux, and on how to use it for musicological purposes: the tutorial, which was written by Nicholas Cook and Daniel Leech-Wilkinson, comes complete with copyright-free sound files which you can download and work on. There is also a PowerPoint file by Craig Sapp, which provides and overview of some of Sonic Visualiser's more advanced features.
